As of late, with my mind slowing losing itself into an unknown abyss of questions and rather dejecting answers, I have pop up with another question: what is art to me?

I remember it started out as a hobby, something that I like to do for fun and because...just because I get a tadbit more attention with it. And when I post it up on DA with people actually commenting and faving it, I was really happy. I truly was.

But lately, art isn't a happy thing anymore. It had turned into something that plagued me and depressed me beyond measures. The thing is, I started comparing myself to other people; and truth is, I did improve more when I do that, and to see improvement is something happy. But then somehow, by coincidence or "fate", I started seeing all these absolutely young artists with crazy drawing skills that just bomb me away. Some of whom drew for a far shorter period than me. And I can't help but start getting these unknown pressures internally that I'm losing, I suck because I have draw for a long time and just didn't get anywhere, people are improving drasticly while I reach a limit etc etc. It made me depressed. Some people advice me that I shouldn't compare myself anymore because I don't intend to major or have any future occupations that relate to art, or that I didn't even take art classes...yet I still can't chase away the growing depression about art that gnawed at me.

If it was suppose to be a hobby from the start, why would I bother to even post it, to "share" it? From the look of things, art had always been...something for me to get attention rather than a true hobby. And that is rather depressing, to realize that I've always subconsciously revel in the idea that I'm getting attention (even if most of them are through fanarts, which is just a cheap way of getting attention in my own opinion <.< ). And it's even more depressing when certain people that I know thought that I wasn't truly drawing "art" because it's anime.

So dejected was I at this prospect that I am starting to get the notion of just....cutting art off. To stop drawing and wasting my time on it. I might as well focus more on science, something that I truly wanted to graduate with. Or maybe I should stop posting my artworks until I'm certain I'm at a good-enough level.

And I'm just really curious. What is art to you? Why do you draw? Why do you bother to post it up on DA? And furthermost, where do you intend to get with art?
